The world’s largest salt flats, the highest navigable lake in the world and one of the highest cities in the world at breathtaking 3,600m above sea level – Bolivia is a country of superlatives, and yet, it is still one of the least visited countries in South America.

We think that Bolivia is clearly underrated. Did you know that Bolivia is not only covered by the Andean mountains and stunning mountain views, but also takes up a part of the Amazon rainforest in its north?

We want you to experience Bolivia the way we did: beautiful, friendly, with great experiences and lots of cultural variety.

  • Today you’ll arrival in La Paz. We’ll give you more information on the airport transfer in our WhatsApp group the week before the trip starts.

    As flights come in at different times, you will have some more or less time to get a first glimpse at this literally breathtaking city – La Paz lies at about 3600m above sea level! Make sure to take it slow today. The altitude can be quite demanding for the body. We recommend you drink lots of water and coca tea – the locals swear by it.

    As some of our group might arrive quite late, we will have our Welcome Dinner on Day 2.

  • We’ll dive straight into the adventure today! You have the morning for yourself to explore the area around the hostel. Don’t worry we will come back to La Paz on this trip! You will have plenty of time to explore the city more in depth.

    At around noon we will take a bus to Lake Titicaca – the world’s highest navigable freshwater lake. You can relax on the bus and take in the stunning views of the lake as we drive along its coastline.

    We’ll arrive in Copacabana, the town we are going to stay in, in the later afternoon. You will have enough time to settle in and climb the hill right at the end of town to watch an incredible sunset.

    After sunset, we will head to t e restaurant for our welcome dinner!

  • Today we will have an early-ish morning and head out to the two main islands on the Bolivian side of Lake Titicaca: Isla de la Luna and Isla del Sol.

    One of the highlights is definitely the incredible views you get of the lake, the islands, and the snow-peaked mountains in the background.

    Our tour leads us to the smaller Island Isla de la Luna first and then to Isla del Sol, where we get some local insights about the culture and rituals while being guided through the pre-Inca ruins.

    In the late afternoon, we head back to Copacabana and take a bus back to La Paz.

  • Today you will have time to see some more of La Paz. You can take it at your own speed and explore the city. We recommend taking the coolest public transport and explore La Paz by cable car. It is super inexpensive, and the views are mind-blowing. Another thing not to be missed is the witches’ market and the cute shopping streets, where you can make sure to get some souvenirs.

    This will be the first night you won’t spend in a bed but on a night bus and wake up in Uyuni! The buses recline more than normal buses and are quite comfy, but mostly quite cold. So, make sure to take some warm clothes with you – we recommend a hat as well. If you have any questions on what to pack for the trip, just ask us.

  • We arrive in Uyuni quite early. So, our first stop will be breakfast and some much-needed coffee.

    After breakfast, there is some time to explore the town before we start with our 3-day adventure of the world’s biggest salt flats and the surrounding Andean highlands.

    On this day of the tour, we will visit the train cemetery and explore the incredibly beautiful salt flats. If the tour is during or at the end of rainy season, we even get the chance to experience the mirror effect. But either way, you will most likely be speechless because of the natural beauty.

    We have some cool activities on top of that: we will cycle through some part of the salt flats and at the end of the day have some drinks and snacks while watching the most incredible sunset you might ever have seen in your life.

  • This will be an early morning, as we head out to the salt flats for sunrise. Make sure to put on some warm clothes, it is really chilly in the morning!

    After that, we’ll have a stopover at our hotel for breakfast and then hop on our car to drive into the Andean highlands.

    Here we will see colourful lagoons, pink flamingos, gigantic rock formations and arrive at our very remote sleeping place right in time to jump into the hot springs for sunset!

  • Get up early, it will pay off! The sunrise over the lagoon, while sitting in the hot springs, is worth every second of sleep you lose.

    After breakfast we will head closer to the Chilean border to see the Dali desert and then make our way to the biggest lagoon of the area: Laguna Colorada. This red lagoon gets its name from an algae that also gives flamingos their pinkish colour.

    On the way back to Uyuni we will also see impressive formations of rocks, some more hidden lagoons and lots of Llamas and viscachas - something between a rabbit and a chinchilla. They are really cute, but sadly too fast to cuddle.

    Back in Uyuni you have time to get dinner and stock up on snacks for the night bus back to La Paz.

  • After the night bus ride, you will have the full day to relax, maybe take a little nap and head out to see some more of La Paz.

    You can just stroll around the city and try some Bolivian street food like papa rellena, bread with chorizo and a freshly squeezed orange juice. All super delicious!

    If you want a bit more adventure, you can also take the cable car to the south of the city and have the famous Chola Sandwich at Parque Las Cholas. After you can hop on a minivan to Valle de la Luna and walk between the peculiar rocks that make you feel like you just made it to the moon.

  • This is going to be an early morning, but it’s going to be worth it!

    We'll take a flight from La Paz to Rurrenabaque - a part of the Amazon jungle.

    Get ready to get on a boat and head up the Beni River into the jungle. We will make a first stop at a local village, where we hands-on learn how to make sugar cane juice and get to try it of course!

    After that, it will be about two hours on the boat until we reach our lodge. Here it is time for some delicious lunch and to relax before we venture out into the jungle.

    It is about a one hour hike to our camp in the middle of the jungle. On the way we learn about the different plants, what you can eat, what is used as medicine and if we are lucky, we will see some monkeys along the way.

    We arrive at our camp right in time for sunset and dinner before we head out for a night walk in search of snakes and other nocturnal animals.

  • We’ll get up quite early again for a short 40-minute hike to watch sunrise. With the sun rising we will witness the forest waking up and watch lots and lots of parrots on their morning flights.

    After breakfast, we have some time to relax and after lunch we head back, where we will float down the river in an unconventional but quite traditional way: on our own raft we built out of tree trunks!

    At the lodge it is time to relax, eat some dinner and then head out for another night walk to discover some tarantulas and look for some more snakes.

  • After breakfast, we’ll hop on the boat and make our way to Rurrenabaque from where we will head towards the Pampas region by car.

    Get your camera ready! At the drop-off point, you will already be able to see some pink river dolphins playing around. We’ll say hi to them and will be brought to our lodge with a short boat ride. Make sure to say hi to Rodrigo, the lodge’s alligator.

    Don’t worry, we are now done with the walking. All the exploring from now on will be done by boat!

    There are many things to see after lunch: we will be swimming with the pink river dolphins, seeing lots of turtles, birds and monkeys and also fish our own dinner: pirañas!

    But even if we don’t catch anything, the chef at the lodge will prepare a delicious dinner for us before we head out for a night boat ride to spot the alligators hiding in the water.

  • You might have guessed it; we are getting up early again to watch the sunrise. During this time of the day you’ll see some funny-looking guys: Capybaras. These chunky animals make the strangest sound when they get scared and will jump into the water to hide from us.

    After breakfast, we’ll hop on the boat again for some more monkeys, turtles and pirañas before it is goodbye and we head back to Rurrenabaque.

    Here we have the late afternoon to relax, watch sunset over the Beni river and go for a nice dinner.

  • Today we catch an early flight back to La Paz, where we have another day to explore this breathtaking city.

    If you are a foodie, you might want to check out La Paz’ fine-dining scene. You wouldn’t believe it, but there is plenty. And it is quite affordable!

  • Today is goodbye. We hope your flight is not that early so that we can enjoy a last breakfast together. Whenever you need to go to the airport, we will take care of your transport.

    • Can I sign up as a solo traveller?

    Of course! You can sign up for our trips whether you are solo or with a group of friends. Our groups are a mix of open-minded people, who usually become friends within a second.

    • Does the tour include flights?

    As people will join our tour from different parts of the world, we decided it is easier to not include the flights in the tour. We are happy to help you find the best flight deal for your trip. Just let us know in the notes section, when booking the tour and we will get in touch with you to help you find your flights. In general, we usually use Skyscanner to find the best deals.

    • If my flight has a layover in the USA or Canada, do I need a visa?

    US: Even when transiting through the US, you still need ESTA. Make sure to apply in advance as it may take up to 72 hours for the application to be processed. Check the official ESTA website for more information: https://esta-center.com/en/transit/index.html

    Canada: For Canada you don’t need to apply for the normal visa, but will need a certain kind of transit visa depending on your country of origin. Check for more information here: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/visit-canada/transit.html

    • Do I need to purchase travel insurance before the trip?

    Yes, it is obligatory for everyone who joins us to have travel insurance before departing. We can help you find the right travel insurance for you. Just contact us via Email or WhatsApp.

    • Airport transfers: how does it work?

    When you book your flight, let us know your flight number and the time you arrive as soon as possible. That way we can stay on track for any delays of your flight. When you arrive at the destination airport, one of us will be there to welcome you and bring you to the car that will take you to the hostel. At the hostel, there will also be one of us to help you with the check-in.

    • What type of luggage should I bring?

    To make the trip easier for you, a backpack or duffle bag is a must. We are heading to some quite remote locations, where access with rolling suitcases is quite hard. Think of minivans with little space, 4x4s, motos or even boats. Ideally, this bag shouldn't be bigger than 40L, which is also hand luggage size and will save you some money on your flight to the destinations.

    • Is it a tiring trip?

    We guess you know you are not signing up for a two-week spa holiday with us. Bolivia is an incredibly beautiful country but it is also incredibly big, so you will have a couple of longer bus journeys, for example between La Paz and Uyuni or between La Paz and the jungle. But we promise: every long bus is totally worth the journey!

    • How is the accommodation throughout the trip?

    We are going to stay at hostels because of the more social atmosphere. Unless you book private accommodation, you will be in a 6-bed dorm with mainly private bathrooms and only with people from our group. (The room capacity may differ depending of the place we're staying at). If you want to know more about the accommodation, just contact us via Email or WhatsApp.

    • Can you provide me with a list of the hostels we will be staying at?

    Sure, just get in touch via Email or WhatsApp and we can send you a list of the hostels. In very rare cases it might happen though that we will stay in another hostel. If you wish, we can also inform you about any changes, if they come up.

    • Is Bolivia a safe country?

    Bolivia is a safe country to travel. As everywhere in the world it is important that you take the usual safety precautions. Especially in bigger cities, as there is always the risk of pickpocketing.

    • Can I drink the tap water?

    In general, you should avoid drinking the tap water in Bolivia. Drinking water is widely available on almost every street corner or sold by vendors on the streets.
